The challenging Brighton 100 returns!
From the start at Preston Park the ride heads east along the South Coast to Newhaven then cuts inland following the river Ouse as it slices through the South Downs to historic Lewes, the county town of East Sussex. The route then follows Cuckmere River back to the coast road for a cliff top climb up to Beachy Head (don't miss your free jam sandwich and flapjack at the Saltmarsh Kitchen stop!). What goes up must come down and you'll be rewarded with a flat section through Eastbourne and across Pevensey Levels. It's then along the edge of the High Weald with its beautiful countryside and choppy hills to Ringmer where the route rejoins the 50 milers.
Both routes cross the Ouse into the Low Weald before heading west below the ridge of the South Downs to Hurstpierpoint. One final push past the 'Devil's Dyke' and its all downhill to the finish offering spectacular views over Brighton and the English Channel.
The route is all on road. Road or hybrid bikes recommended.
